We have recently been involved in the development of a woodland inspired playground in Brierley Forest Park.
Following a competitive tender process our equipment was chosen by the local community to be installed in the park. The equipment consisted of a selection of our environmentally friendly wood-based Orchard range installed as a trail and series of stand-alone units within an area of woodland close to the park’s visitor centre to engage youngsters in natural play. The equipment also provides children with opportunities for physical activity, risk and challenge development and social interaction.
Ashfield District Council wanted to create a play environment that complements the park’s natural surroundings. Orchard helps to achieve this as it is made using pine logs that are sustainably sourced from UK forests and then manufactured into playground equipment at our HQ in Yorkshire.
Slide Bar Trellis forms the focal point of the playground. The large, timber structure features a firemen’s pole, scramble net, a set of hanging rings as well as a variety of ways to climb around to keep children engaged time and time again.
This is complemented by a range of other wooden equipment including swings, monkey bars, a trim trail and a tightrope tangle to help children to develop their balance and coordination.
William Kent, Place & Projects Officer at Ashfield District Council says: “The new playground has already been very well received. It was very important to us that the area complemented the woodland surroundings and we’re delighted to have achieved that. The Orchard range from Sutcliffe Play fits perfectly with the local environment.”
