Sutcliffe Play’s Dawn Blatherwick made an appearance on BBC One’s The One Show discussing the demolition of Ferrybridge power stations.
The Play Area Designer, whose father worked for the power station on Hinton Lane, Knottingley showcased her skills as she sketched the remaining high towers, whilst sharing her experiences growing up near the soon-to-be destroyed site.
“To lose that last reminder of our industrial past is very sad, it feels like the beginning of the end for my working-class generation,” Dawn told The One Show.
Dawn has been at Sutcliffe Play for 13 years and brought to life some of the most creative playground concepts.
The coal-powered station located just off M62 in West Yorkshire closed three years ago. It had been powering properties in the UK since the mid-1920s
Most of Ferrybridge’s towers have been safely collapsed since work begun in 2016 – the site is set to be fully demolished by 2021.
