Gosport Borough Council has unveiled a new play area at Forton Recreation Ground after partnering with leading playground manufacturer Sutcliffe Play on a much-needed refresh.
The existing play provision was tired and worn after years of use by the local community. The bark pits and old toddler equipment were removed and replaced with apparatus that catered for both juniors and younger children, while creating opportunities for children to play together.
Forton Recreation Ground now has play opportunities for everyone. Whether it be a young toddler’s first visit to a playground or a school age child looking to conquer a new challenge, the new play area has something to engage and inspire children of all ages.
Martin Marfé from Sutcliffe Play says: “Gosport Borough Council challenged us to come up with a design that was accessible while providing play opportunities for both toddlers and juniors. The finished play area provides a mix of challenges and experiences, enabling children to develop a diverse range of skills; including balancing, climbing, traversing and social skills.”
With the raised bark pits removed and replaced with a level rubber mulch safety surfacing, the new play area has become accessible for prams and those with additional needs. Inclusive equipment, including a sensory flower and ladybird springie, complete the exciting and stimulating new play area.
