Home Show Success

Our annual Home Show event was once again a resounding success. The fifth event to be held at our factory in Yorkshire showcased what makes Sutcliffe Play an expert in play.

As one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and designers of children’s playground equipment, we gave our visitors from across the globe, the opportunity to see what goes into making our equipment with a tour of the factory. They also got to see our newest equipment put to the test by local school children on the purpose built playground outside our offices.

We also hosted a series of thought-provoking seminars from leading influencers in the play industry:

Ilya Van Holstein & Simon Wood, Cruyff Foundation

Ilya and Simon presented the inspiring story from the Johan Cruyff Foundation which was founded in 1997 based on the wish of Johan Cruyff to give children the opportunity to be actively engaged in sport within the community. The Foundation’s vision is for a Cruyff court to be installed within close proximity of every premiership and football league club throughout the UK and to work with schools on their new Playground14 scheme to introduce bespoke markings to their playgrounds. Ilya and Simon talked about how the Foundation is making this happen, and how access to sports can have a positive long-lasting impact on a child’s well-being.

Aileen Shackell, ASA Landscape Design

Aileen, a lead author on ‘Design for play: a guide to creating successful play spaces’ which was published by the government and Play England, gave us an insight into developments since the report was first published in 2008. The publication’s 10 Design Principles proved highly influential  and Eileen shared debate provoking case studies to help bring the principles to life.

Robin Sutcliffe, Chairman of Sutcliffe Play

As ever, Robin’s session entertained and educated. He talked about his international work as the Chair of the Play Safety Forum (PSF).  This included meetings with Japanese Government officials, presenting at this year’s IPA Conference in Calgary and being part of the International Play Safety Network (IPSN) of play experts from across the globe.

Martin Griffin, Managing Director of Sutcliffe Play comments: “The success of the Home Show is testament to the innovation Sutcliffe Play delivers. Each year more and more customers get to see the commitment of our team and the quality of our equipment which helps us to nurture relationships and develop long-lasting partnerships.”
