Sutcliffe Play has created an exciting new play area in a park in Basildon, following consultation from the local community. Sun Corner in Billericay is now home to a play area which is around three times the size of the former, out-dated playground.
The new play area was funded by the council’s improvement fund coupled with a donation from Billericay Round Table. The design was chosen as a result of a consultation process in which pupils from local junior and senior schools, residents, the Town Council and the Rotary Club worked with Basildon Borough Council to form a consultation group, giving local people a sense of ownership of the site.
The new play area features exciting equipment for toddlers, juniors and older children including two centrepiece structures. The Boat Climber, for the younger children offers an array of role and imaginative play features whilst the challenging Mission unit provides high energy, invigorating play opportunities for older juniors and features a zip-line.
Cllr Kevin Blake, Basildon councillor responsible for leisure and arts, said: “We’re delighted with the new playground, which features exciting and challenging equipment suitable for a wide range of age groups.
“We have had very positive feedback from children and parents already, and we’re sure they’ll continue to enjoy the play area for many years to come.”
