The vision for this area was to update the existing play area by incorporating a variety of exciting and engaging play opportunities for children aged between 6 -11 years old. The design uses both timber and steel equipment to ensure a balanced aesthetic across the development to complement its surroundings. Our Treetops range provided the perfect solution, with Boston Spa Parish Council and its community becoming the first to have this playground equipment installed. Following a successful funding bid aided by the community, discussions on the desired look and intended users of the playground commenced, which led to the construction of a detailed design plan.
The junior play equipment was positioned close to an existing toddler playground leaving an eight-meter space between the areas to encourage children of similar abilities to play side-by-side but also minimising conflict across the playgrounds.
The new Stables Lane Play Area at Boston Spa contains 11 pieces of equipment allowing juniors to enjoy physical and imaginative play. The Mangrove Multiway Unit from our Orchard range is the focal point of the playground, providing the WOW factor with its visual design. The multi-play unit has 14 different play opportunities all with varying challenges and risks designed to test little explorers.
The site also incorporates inclusive equipment with the Inclusive Roundabout. Inclusive items have been included to ensure the play area caters for a variety of abilities including wheelchair users. This approach ensures all users can gain meaningful play experiences within the playing fields and by considering all potential user groups we can ensure the park will be valued by the whole community and have lasting appeal for future generations.
Most of the equipment on the site features equipment accessible for more than one user at a time, to promote social interaction. We created a design that has maximum play value using low-maintenance equipment that will withstand heavy use and British weather conditions. The new playground complements the existing setting and adds real value to the community who will be able to enjoy this new playground for many years to come.
Kevin Alderson, Chair of the Friends of Stables Lane Working Group and local Parish Councillor, said “The new play area looks fabulous, and the compliments are already rolling in! The full team at Sutcliffe Play have been great to work with on this project from start to finish, a job very well done by all concerned.”
Happy local parents have said:
“This is a truly magnificent local facility. My two children absolutely love it.”
“Just wanted to send a quick note of thanks for the work that has gone into the new park at Stables Lane. Myself and my 2 children spent time there both on Saturday and Sunday, such a fantastic park for the village. It was wonderful to see so many families outside enjoying themselves. We are lucky to live in such a great community.”
