Sports Ground Play Area Receives High Quality Revamp

Thanet Sports Ground

Brief

To revitalise a dated and run-down play area.

School children and residents were consulted at focus group meetings to establish what they wanted from their new play area, with around 100 children contributing to the process. These ideas were then put to tender, and children and residents helped to choose their preferred design via a scoring system.

Client

James Gregory, Sport & Leisure Officer for Thanet District Council, said: “We’re very happy with the new play area. The children and residents chose Sutcliffe Play’s design due to the quality of the zip wire and climbing wall and the fact that the site could be used by a variety of age groups.

“This play area is one of our flagship sites and really helps us to inspire a generation to be physically active!”

Design and Build

School children and residents were consulted at focus group meetings to establish what they wanted from their new play area, with around 100 children contributing to the process.

These ideas were then put to tender, and children and residents helped to choose their preferred design via a scoring system. The chosen design encourages active play, with exciting features including a climbing wall and 25 metre zip wire.

The Equipment

Key features of the new play area include a mini climbing wall and 25m zip wire, encouraging physical play. The park also includes a basket swing which can seat several children at once, swings and climbing units.
