Norton Town Council secured S106 developer funding to upgrade the play provision at King George’s Playing Field – an open space and football field with a designated children’s play area and ball court.
Being a popular leisure space for local adults and children alike, we were challenged with enhancing the space to create an environment that would provide entertainment for children of all ages and abilities, as well as adding to the existing range of fitness equipment on site to encourage a healthy body and mind through physical activity.
The site has been refreshed with the installation of new wet pour surfacing, inclusive play equipment, and outdoor gym equipment from the new fitness range, Bodys.
The Bodys outdoor gym equipment is hard-wearing, easy to use, and can be used by young and old to maintain fitness and flexibility. The Romper is designed to strengthen the muscles in the legs and abdomen, while the Cross Country Skier and Rider focus on the muscles in the legs, arms and torso and improve motor coordination.
Completing the outdoor gym area, The Bike is ideal for strengthening the lower limbs and helping to improve circulation, replicating the functionality of a traditional gym bike.
For children visiting the Playing Field, we introduced a range of play options, including a bike springie and seesaw, and inclusive pieces including a roundabout, to keep children entertained.
The Inclusive Scooter Roundabout offers functionality and durability without compromise. The bearing mechanism means the roundabout is free running for up to two minutes, gives children and carers the opportunity to enjoy the fun, with bump stops on both sides of the base to enable users to apply wheelchair brakes.
“We are a bit limited on space but wanted to find a way of improving the play provision within the confines of the existing boundaries at King George Playing Field. Sutcliffe Play came up with an inventive scheme which incorporated a wheelchair accessible roundabout and see saw, as well as a wave rider, a child’s sit on bike, and two new pieces of gym fitness equipment to the side of the field.
We have been very impressed with Sutcliffe Play throughout the project. Kevin has handled our case superbly, always available as the first point of contact. We are very pleased with the outcome and would recommend Sutcliffe Play.”
