Dursley, Gloucestershire

Dursley’s decision on play equipment is child’s play

Following their involvement in selecting equipment for the new site, there was much anticipation from the local community for the opening of their new playground and outdoor gym which were designed and installed by Sutcliffe Play.

Funding from Dursley Town Council enabled the existing site to be transformed and a completely new play area installed. Both the playground and outdoor gym included exciting and innovative play equipment for children of a wide range of ages and abilities.

Local children and user groups who would be using the new playground were instrumental in the selection process for the new equipment and their suggestions were incorporated into the final design.

The new play area features exciting equipment for toddlers, juniors and older children, including a Mission Target centrepiece structure which provides high energy, invigorating play opportunities and features curved banister rails, spin pole and challenging net climber. The addition of inclusive play equipment, allows children with disabilities and special needs to be active side-by-side with able bodied children.

Play Equipment

Double Width Hill Slide and Sleeper Steps: Combining natural play with traditional play this slide adds interest and excitement to all playgrounds.

Mound Tunnel: This exciting cylindrical tunnel is ideal for crawling through, encouraging active play.

Cableway: Cable rides are dynamic, fun play items great for open access play spaces. Noise and friction is reduced by a trolley mechanism with polyamide rollers and a spring system at the finish ensures a safe, controlled ride to the end. An integral brake prevents the seat moving on the cable when not in use.

Mission Target: Like its name, Target has a centre to aim for, it consists of a maze of random platforms at different heights. Compact in design, it’s ideal for smaller spaces and incorporates our exhilarating curved banister rails, spin pole and challenging V net climber. Make it to the centre and there are spaces to stand or sit and rest a while.

Low Rotator: This challenging three station rotator requires strength, balance and co-ordination. Children control the speed themselves, with centrifugal forces meaning that as they lean in, the rotator goes faster, as they lean out, it slows down.

Trampoline: This trampoline is suitable for children of all ages and abilities and encourages social, physical and inclusive play.

Inclusive Rotating Dish: One of Sutcliffe Play’s most inclusive items, this rotating dish can be used for very fast, dynamic play. The rocking and rotating motion combined with the body support and security given by the dish shape make this dish accessible to all.

Inclusive Nest Swing: Designed to hold several young children and those with special needs, this nest swing encourages teamwork in play.

Other: Pull Up Rope, Turrets and Purbeck Stone Compass & Boulders.
