Bespoke Solutions for Developers

Brief

Sutcliffe Play has worked with two ‘Top 20’ construction firms to develop bespoke play solutions in residential developments. Both companies were looking for equipment that offered physical and inclusive play opportunities for children up to 6 years old. However, the developments had limited recreation space so Sutcliffe Play was tasked with installing play areas bolted onto steel plates on the roof of car parks. Quality and cost-effectiveness were important to both clients and Sutcliffe Play was required to deliver play areas with the maximum play value within a short space of time.

Client

Galliford Try, one of the UK’s leading housebuilder and construction groups with revenues of £1.5 billion, and Osborne, a leading family-owned consrtuction firm with a turnover of £311 million, were both loooking for a company to create bespoke solutions allowing play areas to be installed onto the rooftop of two basement car parks. They turned to Sutcliffe Play, to tap into their expertise in delivering bespoke play solutions. Galliford Try’s Elmgrove Point development in Plumstead is a 20 storey, £25 million, mixed tenure housing development, providing 119 affordable homes, incorporating a range of sustainable and energy saving measures. Osborne’s Gordon Road development in Southwark is 100% affordable housing providing 25 homes within two buildings.

Design and Build

Our in-house design team was able to specify the manufacture of all items to be built with steel plates that could be bolted onto the roof. Manufacturing here in our own UK factory meant we had the required flexibility, short lead times and quality control.

Playground Equipment:

Galliford Try’s Elmgrove Point site includes an “Up and Down” toddler slide unit, two specially designed inclusive monster and parrot springies and a pole spin. Osborne’s Gordon Road development also featured a small toddler slide unit.
