Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) Installed in Housing Development

Brief

Sutcliffe Play, the experts in play, have installed a £100,000 playground on a new 48.6 hectare housing development.

The Weedon Hill development of over 1,000 homes will form the basis of a balanced community combining homes for families, couples and single residents within an attractive environment and supported by a range of services and facilities. These will include a community centre, parks, a school, retail and food outlets and 3 play areas.

The Client

The principal developers involved are Taylor Wimpey, Bryants, Careys and Persimmon Homes. Sutcliffe Play equipment was specified into a play area catering for children aged between 2 to 14 years by Aylesbury Vale District Council via an architect and Taylor Wimpey.

Design and Build

The equipment installed includes Sutcliffe Play’s innovative multi-use games area (MUGA) which was developed following extensive consultations with local authorities, specifiers and manufacturers to meet the needs for a ball court system that not only used good quality and environmentally friendly materials but was durable, cost-effective and aesthetically pleasing.

The system incorporates a number of contemporary features, the most innovative being a sound insulation system, ideal for areas where noise may be a problem for residents, making it ideal for the Weedon Hill housing development.

Playground Equipment:

Other equipment installed includes key pieces from the Kaiser & Kühne range including climbing units, 2 embankment slides and seesaws. Sutcliffe Play swings and roundabouts along with wooden stilts and sleeper steps to access the slides. Log edging was used to create a sense of closure around the area without creating barriers using fencing.

MUGA: Sutcliffe Play’s innovative multi- use games area provides unparalleled levels of noise suppression and is suitable for a wide variety of sports including football, tennis, netball, basketball and hockey.

Large Dish Roundabout: One of Sutcliffe Play’s most inclusive features, this piece of play equipment is designed for children between 3 and 14 and has plenty of space for children of all abilities to play together.

Chemist Play House: This play house, by Kaiser & Kühne, provides an exciting place for creative play.

1.8m High Swing Frame: Produced for more than 20 years, Sutcliffe Play’s swings are particularly robust as they are manufactured using hot dipped galvanised steel.

3m High Swing Frame: Placed on safety surfacing, this Sutcliffe Play set has two swings.

Stepping Pods x 6: Stepping Pods have a rubber moulded top and can be installed at varying heights for children to hop from one to another, helping to develop balance and the skill of judging distances.

Spring Seesaw: This colourful Kaiser & Kühne seesaw has deep anchorage for simple installation into pavement or into synthetic surfacing, and offers great play value for children.

Climbing Unit: An exciting Kaiser & Kühne unit, complete with Hercules rope to provide active, challenging play.

Robinia Stilts: Set at heights up to a metre above the ground, these stilts are used in clusters, with children navigating between foot rests to climb from one to another. Stilts can be used to traverse across flat ground as a link between elements or used to climb mounds, avoiding wear to grass surfaces.
