A playground to encourage active play
A new play area in Mildenhall has ‘delighted’ residents and encouraged active, cooperative play in children.
Sutcliffe Play were tasked with installing a new playground at Mildenhall Playing Fields near Marlborough, Wiltshire.
The playground is being installed in two phases, the first of which is now complete. Designed to encourage fitness and active play, it features equipment suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities.
Amongst the new equipment installed is a Tangle Trail and Teepee from our Orchard range, a range of environmentally friendly equipment which encourages physical, challenging play and social interaction. It comprises wood-based clamber units and trim trails which help to improve balance, strength and coordination.
The playground also features an inclusive basket seat, a hill slide and a mound tunnel.
“The whole village is delighted with the new equipment,” says Sir Nigel Thompson, Chairman of Mildenhall Parish Council. “It is encouraging fitness and is being enjoyed by children of all ages.”
The second phase of the design will see the addition of outdoor fitness equipment including a cross trainer and a fitness bike.
3 seat swing with inclusive basket seat, flat seat and pod seat
Produced for more than 20 years, Sutcliffe Play’s swings are particularly robust as they are manufactured using hot dipped galvanised steel. The pod seat featured in this swing set is a revolutionary, technically superior seat for toddlers. Advanced rubber technology around stainless steel cables gives it flexibility, so the pod actually ‘hugs’ the child. Meanwhile, the inclusive basket seat is designed to hold several young children and those with special needs.
3m mound tunnel
This exciting cylindrical tunnel is ideal for crawling through, encouraging active play.
1.4m high double width slide
Slides offer exciting play opportunities that allow children to understand the forces of gravity, teaching them not to fear losing control.
Orchard Tangle Trail 5
Our wooden trim trail equipment is designed to create challenging circuits and courses mixing balancing, climbing, traversing and sport activities.
The Teepee can be a challenging wooden play unit where children can use one of three climbing sides to race to the top, or it can be a simple den to ‘hide out’ in underneath. With a second net in the middle there is another ‘den’ level to sit on or use to cross over to the other side.
This challenging three station rotator requires strength, balance and co-ordination. Children control the speed themselves, with centrifugal forces meaning that as they lean in, the rotator goes faster, as they lean out, it slows down.
