We’re delighted to reveal our chosen charity for 2025 – Bless Community Support’s Little Buds Eco Allotment!
Bless Community Support began as a small group of volunteers, supplying meals to the elderly and vulnerable during the Covid pandemic in the village of Upton, Pontefract (the home of Sutcliffe Play!). This period highlighted the lack of community services and support in the area, and since then the charity has flourished, as it sought to challenge this situation with a multitude of programs for young and old across the village – all of which now help to make Upton a healthier, happier place to live every day!
Our donation will go towards its Little Buds Eco Allotment, a beautiful space which is free for wilderness explorers aged 2-12 to attend, and which enables them to get to grips with the great outdoors via hands-on learning, crafting, growing loads of different produce, and much more! A paid membership of £3 a year is also available, and provides children with a canvas bag full of goodies for them to use in their sessions at the allotment!
Our Employee Ownership Councillor Angela, who originally nominated Little Buds for our donation, recently headed to the allotment to personally deliver it, and whilst there she caught up with their brilliant volunteers, and heard that the money will go towards new gardening gloves for the children as well as a new pump for their pond, to attract plenty of amphibian friends as spring arrives!
We’re thrilled to give this fabulous local charity the recognition it deserves, and can’t wait to see Little Buds grow and grow!
