 A Fleetwood community group has celebrated the opening of a new playground they helped raise thousands of pounds for.
Wesham Community Pride Trust spent 18 months raising the funds for the new playground on Wesham Community Park.
The playground which was installed by experts in play, Sutcliffe Play, includes a range of equipment for children of all ages from an exciting and challenging cable ride, playzone unit and single point swing for older children to a toddlerzone unit that encourages physical and imaginative play and caters for younger children.
Sutcliffe Play also created a new entrance to the play area by making access with a pathway through a wall for pedestrians so they did not have to share the entrance with vehicles.
Councillor Linda Nulty comments: “The community has chosen what’s in the park. There’s lots of equipment for toddlers to teenagers and the amount of people using it is unbelievable.”
More than £100,000 has been spent on the re-vamp, including £85,000 from the Crossing Gate housing development, with the support of both Fylde and Lancashire County Councils and the Lancashire Environmental Trust.
Town councillor Martin Howarth, who led the project, said: “We hope the community of Wesham will be delighted with this wonderful new modern play area!
“There is still work to do on the park and we will continue working with the local schools, youth groups and wider community on the next steps to transform this important public facility. Together we are building a park to be proud of.”
The playground was officially opened by Mayor Theresa McGardle.
The Trust now hopes to raise more money to enable them to build a trim trail, multi-use games area and a nature area as part of phases two and three of the scheme.
